RE at Nafferton

From Mrs Cawthorn, subject lead:

At Nafferton School, we have created our own scheme of work for Religious Education and World Views. We follow the locally agreed syllabus, with resources adapted from a planning scheme, to support the teaching and learning of RE. Our RE work is planned over a two-year cycle. Each half term, every year group studies a different word religion. In Key Stage One – Humanism is also studied as a world view and in Key Stage Two we look at Paganism and Atheism. Our aim with the RE curriculum, is to ensure that children appreciate the diverse world around them. We also want the children to have a tolerance and understanding of different religions and world views; making connections and talking confidently about world faiths. Where possible, we arrange visitors in school to enhance their learning and give the children the opportunity to meet and talk to members of different faiths. We also follow an assembly rota which covers world celebrations, festivals and religions to ensure children are exposed to a breadth of different beliefs and cultures.

Although we are not a faith school, we have close links with the two churches in Nafferton village – with regular visits and assemblies from the priest and ministers. We hold a number of whole school celebrations at the two churches throughout the year, including termly Head Teacher Certificate Assembly, Harvest Festival, Remembrance Day, Christingle, Christmas and Easter.
